Apparently the beverage industry isn’t doing us any favors. Too many calories, sugar, fake sugar, caffeine, chemicals…don’t drink this because its got too many calories and a days worth of sugar…don’t drink that because its full of artificial sweetener which could do your body harm…
Then there’s bottled tea. I’ve read claims of bottled tea being “all natural”, but I still can’t drink it. My favorite brand of bottled tea just changed their formula so green tea is in all of their beverages.
SIDE NOTE: Not all teas are the same on your body. Personally, I cannot consume Green Tea (yes I know its healthy and full of good stuff) but I found out the hard way that Green Tea isn’t the best thing for me due to an anxiety disorder and I have a ragweed allergy so I stay away from Chamomile.
I love my coffee, but I also love my tea as well. In the summertime, iced sweetened black tea is my absolute favorite thing to drink. At night I love winding down with a hot, soothing cup of herbal tea or tisane.
Here’s an easy solution to get away from all of the additives that is in beverages these days: make some tea and drink it. Even better, get a tisane or two, brew it and drink it. Iced or hot, either way its good for you.
I am going to share with you several of the teas I absolutely cannot do without and drink on a regular basis:
1. Owens Acres Summer Sunset: A rich blend of Calendula, Hibiscus, Lemon Balm and Rose Petals. Brews up a deep, ruby red and is pleasantly tangy due to the hibiscus. I like to brew this stronger than the instructions on the bag because I love the flavors, and the Calendula is so soothing. I have a very large cup of this, hot, when I get home from work, its my winding down before I go to bed.
2. Owens Acres Sun Tea Herbs: Its called Sun Tea but to be honest, I have never had this iced, I have always had it hot. Brews up a pretty pink (the color reminds me of a pink grapefruit) when I brew it hot and stronger than the directions ask for. This tea contains Lemon Balm, Lemon Verbena, Peppermint, Spearmint, Calendula, Lavender, Catnip, Rose Petals, Hibiscus and is sweetened with Stevia. No, not the powdered stuff we get at the store, but the fresh cut kind, you know? The actual plant, which tastes so much better than the processes Stevia we’re all so used to.
3. California Moonlight: This beautiful tea contains dried Pluots, Elderberries, Blackberry Leave, Peppermint and Sweet Lavender. This tea is awesome because hello, dried pluots are delicious.
Brew some up, ice it down and hand it over to your family. Who’s gonna miss heavy, artificially sweetened and flavored water when you can have the goodness and health of nature?
